RICHMOND, Va. – Friday marks the dawn of a new day in Virginia.

Most COVID-19 restrictions are being lifted, following a directive two weeks ago from Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam. The governor lifted most of the mitigation measures at midnight.

This means that social distancing and capacity restrictions are done in most settings.

Northam announced his decision immediately after the CDC revised its mask guidelines for fully vaccinated people.

Fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks in most situations. Businesses may still require employees and customers to wear a mask.

The governor’s order says anyone who is not vaccinated should wear a mask in all settings in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Masks are still required for everyone in schools and on public transportation.
