MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. – Bond has been denied for a Giles County woman charged with abducting a toddler from a Virginia church nursery earlier this month.

Prosecutors cited safety concerns in asking the court to continue to hold Nancy Fridley, noting that she had scoped other nurseries in the weeks leading up to the kidnapping.

Fridley will be back in court in August. In the interim, the court has ordered a competency hearing.

Family members say Fridley suffers from mental problems and was not on her medications at the time of the abduction.
