PITTSTLVANIA COUNTY, VA. – A water main break left most of Chatham, Dry Fork  and Tightsqeeze without water over the Memorial Day weekend.

The Chatham Star Tribune reports that God’s Pit Crew and the Chatham Fire Department handed out an estimated 2,160 bottles of purified water to area residents on Sunday.

The pipe that broke was a 12-inch line located about 6 feet underwater in a swampy area near Cherrystone Creek.

Repairs began Sunday afternoon and the line had been replaced Sunday night; however, a boil water notice remains in effect for the area.

Chatham’s aging water infrastructure system has been plagued with problems recently.
