(Danville, Va) – Crews with the Danville Fire Department responded to a structure fire just after 9:30AM Sunday.  The fire was located in the basement of a single-story residence at 100 Hayes Court in the Westover area.  Upon arrival the home was showing smoke from all sides as well as the roof.

The occupants of the home confirmed to crews arriving on scene that the structure was clear of any other individuals.  The fire was quickly extinguished.  The Fire Marshall’s office determined the cause of the fire to be improper use of electrical equipment.

Three adults were displaced as a result of the blaze due to fire damage in the basement as well as smoke damage to the homes main floor.  The Red Cross is assisting with temporary shelter for those affected.
