(Danville, VA) – Another standout of the George Washington High School football team signed his letter of intent Wednesday.  Willie Edmunds will be continuing his academic and athletic career at Youngstown State in Ohio on a full scholarship.

The wait was coming down to the wire after several of his fellow seniors had already made their intentions known and with graduation already taking place Edmunds was hoping for some suitors after playing in an all-American game in Texas.  With opportunities from Drake and Youngstown state for Edmunds it came down to distance from home.  With so many colleges already having opened camps for the summer Willie will only have a few days to prepare to join his fellow penguins, as he leaves on Monday.  He looks to get on the field early and get playing time in any position to get noticed and make an impact.

Edmunds had over 1,100 yards and 17 trips to the endzone in a COVID-19 shortened and rescheduled spring campaign.  Scoring 102 points Willie accounted for roughly 30% of the Eagle scoring.

Assistant Coach Jay Perdue took a moment while honoring Edmunds to encourage and teach underclassmen who had just finished up the first half of training camp for the day,  by putting a spotlight on how hard work and dedication can hopefully see them follow a similar path.

Surrounded by teammates, coaches and family including Uncle Ferrell Edmunds, Willie joins a long list of successful student athletes from GW to take their game to the next level.

His big takeaway from his time with the Eagle is respect not only for yourself but to others you interact with on a daily basis.
