DANVILLE, Va. – 33 arrests were made following a three-month, undercover operation into guns and drugs in the Danville area.

The probe was launched after a spike in gun-related offenses in early 2021. According to Danville Police, the department’s Violent Crimes and Gang Unit believed some of the crimes were linked to “several repeat offenders.”

The detectives identified a list of known violent offenders wanted on outstanding warrants who had yet to be apprehended. The department put forth a focused effort to locate and arrest these fugitives over the next several months.

Dubbed “Operation Mousetrap,” the effort resulted in the arrest of 33 fugitives on charges including murder, robbery and burglary. The suspects were also charged with weapons offenses and probation violations.

13 firearms were seized. Police confiscated 54 grams of cocaine, 336 grams of K2 (synthetic marijuana) and 8 grams of heroin.

The arrests netted additional charges involving drugs and weapons in what Danville Police describe as “an ongoing investigation.”
