EDEN, N.C. – Duke Energy is installing new warning signs near a dam following a tubing accident that left four people dead. A fifth person remains missing.
Crews continue to search the Dan River near the Virginia-North Carolina border for 35-year-old Teresa Villano. Family members say the Eden woman was pregnant.
The family of nine went tubing Wednesday evening and ended up in the river after their tubes capsized after traveling over a dam near a Duke Energy steam station. Four were plucked from the waters after spending 19 hours clinging to the dam or to rafts.
While danger signs are already in place, Duke Energy said it is installing “new, larger warning signs above and below the dam.”
