DANVILLE, Va. – 37 cadets were recognized Thursday during graduation ceremonies for the third annual Danville Youth Police Academy.
These young people participated in character development, physical fitness and training over the course of the three-week program.
The program also offers the youth and police the opportunity to build relationships while fostering mutual respect.
The George Washington High School NJROTC taught the cadets team-building and drill exercises while Danville Public Schools provided the food and facilities. Community members also donated food, supplies and funds to make the event possible.
This year’s academy had twelve youth leaders who had been cadets in previous years. The youth leaders acted as role-models for the cadets and worked to support the academy’s staff.
Plans are already in place for the 2022 youth police academy.
