MARTINSVILLE, Va. – A Martinsville man is behind bars after crashing his motorcycle during a police chase that ended in Pittsylvania County.

53-year-old Douglas Harris is wanted on charges of failure to appear and violation of probation. Police spotted him riding a motorcycle about 1 p.m. Wednesday and attempted to pull him over. Police say Harris didn’t stop and officers chased him to the intersection of Mountain Drive and Cavalry Road, in the Sago area, where he crashed the motorcycle. Harris ran from the scene but police caught up with him and took him into custody.

Henry County Sheriff’s deputies were joined by Virginia State Police during the pursuit.

In addition to the outstanding warrants, Harris now faces charges of felony elude and driving with a revoked operator’s license.

He is being held without bond in the Martinsville City Jail.
