MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Police have identified the man who was shot and killed outside an apartment complex Sunday night as 31-year-old Charles Brandon Coleman of Martinsville.

Officers responded at a call of shots fired outside the Maplewood Apartments at  1446 West Fayette Street around 8:30 p.m.

When the police arrived, they found Coleman lying behind one of the apartment buildings, suffering from multiple gunshots wounds. Coleman was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Roanoke for an autopsy.

Investigators believe Coleman was involved in an argument with another man before it turned into a fight, during which the man pulled a handgun and started shooting.

The suspect has not been identified and no arrests have been made.
