BOONES MILL, Va. – The man shot at a Boones Mill convenience store Monday morning was critically injured in the attack.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said the victim, 49-year-old Kelly Hall of Rocky Mount, remains in critical condition at an area hospital, where he’s being treated for life-threatening injuries. Employees of the store assisted Hall until rescue personnel arrived.
Later that afternoon, police stopped 55-year-old Emmitt Darrel Southern of Princeton, West Virginia in Montgomery County and charged him with malicious wounding. He is being held without bond after fleeing the scene of the shooting. Additional charges are pending.
Investigators have said the two men are acquainted but have given no motive for the shooting, which happened at Cannaday’s Sav-A-Bit on Virgil H. Goode Highway in Franklin County.
