EDEN, N.C. – The active search for a woman who is believed to have drowned in the Dan River two weeks ago has ended and the investigation is now listed as a recovery effort.
On Wednesday, June 16, a family went over a Duke Energy dam on the Dan River in Eden. Four were rescued after spending 19 hours clinging to rafts and the dam; four others drowned. A fifth person has yet to be located.
Rockingham County Emergency Services said the search is now a recovery effort with the assumption that the last missing tuber — 35-year-old Teresa Villano, of Eden – drowned. Family members say she was pregnant.
