DANVILLE, Va. – An early morning fire sent a Danville family fleeing into the night but no one was injured.
The Danville Fire Department responded to a call at 171 Smith Street just after 2:15 am. Crews arrived within five minutes and and found a small, one-story home with smoke coming out of the front door of the house.
The fire was traced to a clothes dryer and firefighters were able to douse the flames with a hose line. The dryer was removed from the kitchen and fans were used to ventilate the house, which sustained moderate smoke damage.
The home was occupied at the time of the fire, but everyone was located safely outside.
The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
16 firefighters were on the scene for about two hours.
