ELKHORN LAKE, Va. – Officials say a fisherman drowned after falling out of a small boat on Elkhorn Lake Saturday.

The victim was identified as 72-year-old William Brown of Phenix, Virginia.

A spokesman with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources said Brown was on a fishing trip with a friend when he fell into the water. Others in a nearby boat came to his aide. CPR was administered and Brown was taken to Gretna Medical Center, where he later died.

Officials say Brown couldn’t swim and there were no life jackets on board the fishing boat at the time of the accident.
