HURT, Va. – A man described as a “life-long friend” of Corey Andrew Moon’s has been charged with his murder.

Montel M. Oakley, 44, of 3957 Pocket Road, Hurt, is being held without bond on a manslaughter charge in the Chatham Jail.

Just after midnight on Sunday, deputies and investigators from the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call involving a shooting at Oakley’s Pocket Road address in Hurt.

The caller advised that a man had been shot. Deputies and EMS personnel arrived to find Moon dead at the scene.

Moon, also 44, lived at 229 Ridge Road, Troutville, Virginia.

The fatal shooting is still under investigation.
