DANVILLE, Va. – Danville Police are investigating a shooting that happened inside a local business Wednesday afternoon.
According to police, the shooting was at 3316 Riverside Drive – American Freight Furniture Mattress Appliance — in Riverside Shopping Center.
Danville Police Chief Scott Booth said a suspect is in custody.
One person was injured and taken to the hospital. The victim suffered a serious but non-life threatening injury and was alert when transported. He was hospitalized in stable condition at the time of this posting.
Danville PIO Lt. Richard Childress said the dispute was between the store’s 29-year-old manager and an employee. Police believe the employee pulled a gun and shot the manager once in the head.
32-year-old Jaivon Alonzo Scott, an employee at the business, was arrested after he fled the store. He was chased down by three police officers and was apprehended behind AutoZone, not far from the scene of the shooting.
Scott is charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, discharging a firearm in an occupied building, shooting a firearm in the commission of felony and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Police responded to a 911 call for a shooting inside American Freight at at 2:25 p.m. Wednesday.
Police say Scott was working at the time of the dispute. Other employees were inside the store at the time but no one else was injured.
