PITTTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – Gov. Ralph Northam was in Pittsylvania County Wednesday as state and local leaders broke ground on a multi-million dollar project that will create about 200 new jobs.
Staunton River Plastics new facility in Hurt represents a $34 million investment.
Gov. Northam praised the local workforce and said “access to a world class education system” has helped the region land jobs and attract industries like Staunton River Plastics by offering training programs through Danville Community College. Northam called Danville and Pittsylvania County “models for the rest of this state” in attracting new businesses “and helping businesses that are already here to grow.”
Staunton River Plastics announced in May of 2020 that it would invest to create a new 250,000-square-foot facility at the Southern Virginia Multimodal Park – a joint industrial park that has been developed by the City of Danville, Pittsylvania County, and the Town of Hurt.
The new plant is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2022.
