CHATHAM, Va. – A tractor-trailer wreck stalled northbound traffic on U.S. 29 at Chatham Sunday afternoon.

The 18-wheeler tipped on a curve and the trailer rolled over into the median about 3:30 p.m.

The truck was headed northbound to Lynchburg. No other vehicles were involved and there were no injuries.

The tractor-trailer apparently rounded a curve too fast and the trailer portion overturned into the median, with the cab coming to rest upright in a lane of traffic.

Both the cab and the trailer sustained heavy damage.

The accident happened at the intersection of Highway 29 and State Road 801, closing both northbound lanes of the highway for several hours. Southbound traffic was reduced to a single lane while a wrecker crew cleared the scene.

Volunteer firefighters from Blairs assisted as police directed traffic around the crash.

The vehicle is registered to Service Trucking Co., Inc.
