DANVILLE, Va. – A two-day murder trial set for Danville Circuit Court Monday had to be postponed because too few jurors showed up for the proceeding.

47-year-old James Edward Fultz, IV is charged with fatally stabbing a cab driver on the night of January 12. The driver, 51-year-old Wendy Harris of Danville, died at the scene. Harris was found inside her cab on Gay Street. She was slumped over the steering wheel and had suffered stab wounds to her head and neck.

Fultz left the scene before police arrived, but investigators tracked him to Temple Avenue, where he was arrested following a short foot chase.

Fultz was the last person to ride in her taxi. He is charged with first-degree murder in Harris’ death. During his arrest, Fultz admitted to police that he had killed someone.

Warrants indicate that Fultz and Harris had a dispute about money inside the cab before she was murdered.

A jury pool of 35 was needed but only 32 potential jurors showed up at the courthouse Monday, with some of them arriving late for the 9 a.m. trial.

Judge James Reynolds set a new trial date for December.

Fultz is also charged with the December 27 robbery of Carter’s Quick Shoppe at 3103 West Main Street in Danville.
