DANVILLE, Va. – A cat and a dog died in a Danville house fire Friday night.
Firefighters were called 126 Ruskin Street at 7:08 p.m. and found a two-story house with heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of the home. The homeowner informed firefighters that everyone made it out of the house safely and there were no injuries.
Crews entered the home and confined the fire to the back laundry room. The family’s cat and dog died in the blaze.
The Fire Marshal’s Office investigated and determined the fire started in the dryer vent.
The five residents are being assisted by the local Red Cross.
Firefighters were on scene for just under three hours.
