SOUTH BOSTON, Va. – A man wanted for a Southside murder has been arrested in North Carolina.

31-year-old Michael Anthony Small of Buffalo Junction turned himself in to the U.S. Marshall Task Force without incident at the Durham County Detention Center. He continues to be held in North Carolina, pending his extradition to Virginia.

Small is charged with second-degree murder after a woman was found dead at the Super 8 Motel at 1040 Bill Tuck Highway in South Boston shortly after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 24. When first responders arrived on scene, they found a dead woman in one of the first floor motel rooms.

The victim was identified as 26-year-old Mahalia Townes of Clarksville.

Police are still searching for the 2009 blue Honda Accord they believe Small was driving at the time of the homicide.
