FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – The former Marine charged with murdering his step-father in Franklin County two years ago is expected to enter an insanity defense.

For now, the commonwealth requesting that Michael Brown’s trial be delayed for a psychiatric evaluation. His trial is slated to start next week.

Brown was the object of a massive manhunt in November 2019. He returned to the scene of the crime and surrendered to police.

The Commonwealth’s motion to move the trial date is based on the need for the court to “one or more qualified mental health experts to perform an evaluation of Brown’s sanity at the time of the alleged offenses.”

He is accused of killing Rodney Brown, his mother’s boyfriend.
