(Danville, VA) – The Danville Transit System has been awarded the 2021 Outstanding Community Program Award on behalf of the Virginia Transit Association.   The award is based on the systems Reserve A Ride programs operation amidst the pandemic.

A team effort between transit staff and other city departments helped develop strategies to offer same-day rides door to door bus service through Reserve a Ride.

Other procedures had to be adapted for to move fixed route passengers who were unable to board buses due to seating limitations to maintain social distance.  Those changes helped the programs growth of 40% along with bringing flexibility for Danville Transit customers.  The increase also helped bring stability to passenger revenue levels.
