HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. – With less than a week to go before the gubernatorial election, Republican Glenn Youngkin brought his bus tour to the Southside Tuesday with stops in Danville, Chatham and Halifax County.

It was day four of the ten-day trek and saw Youngkin repeating familiar themes, pledging to reduce taxes and give parents a say in what their children are taught in school.

He also urged rural voters to take nothing for granted and to turn out the vote on Tuesday.

With the election just six days away, new polling shows a tight governor’s race in Virginia. For the first time, Republican newcomer Glenn Youngkin has pulled ahead of Democrat Terry McAuliffe in a just-released survey.

The University of Mary Washington canvas asked more than 1000 voters who they preferred. Among likely voters, 48% favored the Youngkin, while 43% picked McAuliffe.

Among registered voters, it was 46% for McAuliffe and 41% for Youngkin.
