DANVILLE, Va. – The man who survived a deadly encounter on Rocklawn Ave. Wednesday evening now faces a firearms charge in the incident.

Danville Police have charged 43-year-old Khaleel Latwain Rogers of Ringgold with possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Rogers was wounded in the confrontation that left 50-year-old Clarence James Martin, Jr. of Danville dead.

Officers were called to the 100 block of Rocklawn Ave. at about 6:30 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of shots fired. They arrived to find Martin in front of a home suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Sovah Health Danville where he later died.

Investigators confirm that Rogers was the unnamed Ringgold man who was wounded at the same address. He arrived in the emergency room suffering from a gunshot wound and was transferred to another facility in serious condition.

He remains hospitalized and continues to undergo treatment for gunshot wounds. Police have not disclosed the name or location of the hospital.

Authorities expect Rodgers to be transported back to Danville when his condition allows.
