FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – One man died in a single-vehicle accident in Franklin County early Thursday morning.
Virginia State Police say the wreck happened at 12:35 a.m. on Virgil H Goode Highway, one tenth of a mile north of Doe Run Road.
A 2003 GMC Sonoma was traveling north on Route 220, when the vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and struck the guardrail.
The driver of the GMC was identified as Cleo Ray Sloan, 71, of Rocky Mount. Sloan was wearing his seat belt but died at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
Virginia State Police have also identified the driver who was killed in a Wednesday night accident as 19-year-old Devin Xzavier Brandon off Rocky Mount.
Police say the teen died after crashing into some trees in Franklin County about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The single-vehicle wreck occurred on Sontag Road, about a mile west of Mount Carmel Road. The Ford Taurus was eastbound on Sontag Road when Brandon ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, crossed the roadway, and hit several trees.
The teenager was not wearing his seat belt and died at the scene.
