UPDATE: The vehicle involved in Saturday’s fatal hit-and-run accident on West Main St. in Danville has been located. Police said Sunday afternoon that “the vehicle was recovered in Danville after the police department received a call from a citizen.” The vehicle has been identified and impounded by police for crime scene processing. There was no word on an arrest or possible charges in the incident.
DANVILLE, Va. – Danville Police are looking for the driver who struck and killed a pedestrian on West Main Street Saturday night and then left the scene of the accident.
Officers responded to West Main Street near the intersection of Lady Astor Street just after 9:30 p.m. for a fatal hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian. The victim was transported by EMS but pronounced dead at Sovah Danville Medical Center.
The victim has been identified as a 74-year-old Danville man. His name is being withheld pending notification of family members.
The Danville’s crime scene unit and police investigators spent the night collecting evidence at the scene.
The police department is seeking assistance from the public and hopes to quickly locate video camera surveillance from West Main Street and areas near Lady Astor Street. Anyone who may have seen or heard the accident is also asked to contact the police department.
