HENRY COUNTY, Va. – The man wanted for a weekend homicide in Henry County has surrendered to police.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office confirms that Dewayne Austin Jr. turned himself in around 11 p.m. Sunday. He has been charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and is currently being held in the Henry County Jail without bond.
Police say Austin shot and killed 41-year-old Lewis Javon Rumley of Fieldale on Saturday, just after 8:15 p.m.
The Martinsville-Henry County Emergency 911 Center received a call that a man had been shot in the parking lot on Blackberry Road in Bassett. Sheriff’s deputies responded and found the victim lying the ground.
Rumley’s body has been taken to the medical examiner’s office in Roanoke for an autopsy.
