DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Police Department has released the name of the man who was struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident Saturday night.
The victim has been identified as 74-year-old Nelson Baisas Baldemor of Danville. His identity was previously withheld until his next-of-kin could be identified and located. Police said family members were located Monday evening and notified of Baldemor’s death.
44-year-old Willie Junior Coles of Danville was taken into custody Sunday and is charged with felony hit and run and with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Investigators say Coles was driving the vehicle that struck and killed the pedestrian at West Main and Lady Astor Street. The accident happened about 9:30 Saturday night.
Baldemor was taken to Sovah Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
