DANVILLE, Va. – The Danville Fire Department kept flames from spreading from the deck of a home Saturday night.
Units responded to a structure fire at 133 Westmoreland Court at 9:45 pm Saturday.
Crews found heavy smoke and fire from the side of the structure, mainly the deck. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames from the outside of the house in about ten minutes and prevented the fire from spreading to the interior of the home.
The home was not occupied at the time and there were no injuries.
Once the fire was out, crews remained on the scene for about an hour checking for hidden fires and to assist the Fire Marshall with an investigation. The cause of the fire was determined to be discarded smoking materials.
Three engines, one ladder truck a safety officer and a battalion chief responded.
Damage to the residence was listed as moderate.
