DANVILLE, Va. – Authorities in Pittsylvania County are investigating an arson and homicide after the bodies of two men were found inside a burning home Sunday morning.
The Pittsylvania County 911 Center received a call at about 10:00 a.m. from a neighbor in the 800 block of Old Mayfield Road in Danville, reporting smoke coming from a nearby home. Fire crews arrived and found the bodies of two men inside the residence.
Based on evidence recovered at the scene, Sheriff Mike Taylor said officers are “investigating the matter as an arson and homicide,” Both bodies have been sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Roanoke for autopsies and to determine the causes of death.
Authorities are withholding the names of the men pending results of the autopsies.
Investigators remained on the scene well into the night, collecting evidence and interviewing neighbors.
No arrests have been made, and no other details were released.
Other organizations including the Danville Police Department, the Pittsylvania County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, the Virginia State Police and the Joint Terrorism Task Force are assisting with the investigation.
