HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. – Halifax County authorities are investigating a shooting that left a man dead Sunday evening.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on Union Church Road about 7:30 p.m. after a woman reported a man had been shot during a break-in at the address.

But investigators found no evidence of forced entry and say the woman and man were acquainted. They believe the woman who owns the home shot and killed the man and that the man was not an intruder.

Halifax County Sheriff Fred S. Clark said the investigation shows the people involved knew each other, and this is considered an isolated incident.

No names have been released at this point and the fatal shooting remains under investigation. Charges are said to be pending.

Authorities from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, Halifax Police Department and Virginia State Police responded to the shooting.
