BLAIRS, Va. – The driver of a Pittsylvania County school bus has been charged following a Wednesday morning wreck that left two students with minor injuries.
The bus driver, 70-year-old Virgil L. Clay of Danville, has been charged with failing to obey a traffic signal. Clay was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.
The crash happened on Rt. 29 in Blairs just before 9 a.m., near the intersection with 719. There were seven teenagers on board the bus at the time of the crash.
Virginia State Police say two students were injured. A 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old girl complained of injuries but neither had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.
According to state police, the school bus was headed south on Route 29 when the driver failed to stop at a red light and was hit by a 2019 Ford F-150 at the intersection.
50-year-old Christopher W. Lovern, of Chatham, who was operating the F-150, was also wearing his seat belt and was not injured in the accident.
