SOUTH BOSTON, Va. – The man wanted for murder in a fatal shooting in South Boston surrendered to police Tuesday afternoon.

21-year-old Jamal Brandon turned himself in to to police at the Halifax Regional Adult Detention Center.

Brandon is charged with first-degree murder in a fatal shooting that happened late Monday morning across from the South Boston Town Hall.

21-year-old Kendall N. Dixon of Halifax was shot with a handgun outside the Taylor Lofts apartments on Ferry Street at around 11 a.m. Monday.

South Boston Police responded to a report of shots fired. On arrival, they learned that Dixon had been taken to the emergency department at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, where he died.

Investigators said Dixon suffered multiple gunshot wounds and officers recovered spent pistol casings outside the apartment building.

Brandon, who lives in South Boston, is being held without bond. His next court date is set for March 14.
