2020-snow-1

DANVLLE, Va. – While temperatures will climb to the mid-60s on Saturday, the National Weather Service says light snow is possible for the Danville area early Sunday morning.

It won’t be much of a weather event, with less than a half-inch predicted for Southside Virginia. The precipitation will move into our area late Saturday night, with an overnight low around 34 degrees.

Rain and snow are likely before 11 am Sunday, then a chance of rain between 11am and 3pm, then a chance of rain and snow after 3pm. Skies will clear by late afternoon, with a high near 37.

The cold front is dropping south from Canada. It’s a fast-moving system with low moisture and warmer surface temperatures, so most areas will only see a light dusting of an inch or less. An inch of snow is possible in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Danville Public Works crews will monitor street conditions and spread salt on bridges and overpasses, if needed. All crews are on standby. Trucks have been prepped and are ready to go.

The major thoroughfares were not pretreated with brine because of the amount of rain expected overnight. The rain would wash the brine off the street surfaces.
