DANVILLE, Va. – Freezing Fog is developing across Southside Virginia and parts of the North Carolina Piedmont this morning. As a result of moist ground and light to calm winds in the general area of Danville, South Boston, and Yanceyville, dense fog has formed during the last few hours.

With temperatures down into the 20s across this region, the fog has become freezing fog. A thin sheet of frost and/or ice may form on bridges, overpasses, untreated roads and sidewalks. This freezing fog will likely continue through the early morning hours until a drier northwest wind flow reaches this area by daybreak.

Several school systems in the Danville area are operating on a delayed schedule Monday as a result of the frozen precipitation.

If you plan to travel in the area of Danville, South Boston, or Yanceyville early this morning, use extreme caution. Black ice or frost may be found on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads creating hazardous travel conditions. Reduce speed, leave extra distance between you and the vehicle in front of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination.
