LYNCHBURG, Va. – A Halifax man charged with a murder that happened last year in Lynchburg will undergo a mental evaluation.
23-year-old Devan Rashod Wooding is charged with first-degree murder and related felonies in the death of a Lynchburg man and the wounding of a woman on June 1. 2021.
Lynchburg Police responded to the 3400 block of Fort Avenue just after midnight for a call of shots fired. Officers spotted the suspect getting into a vehicle and fleeing. A chase ensued and ended with the arrest of Wooding.
At the scene, officers found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was treated for serious injuries. 22-year-old Cameron Malike Jones of Lynchburg was found dead at a location nearby.
The Lynchburg News & Advance reports that a judge has ordered an evaluation of Wooding’s sanity at the time of the murder.
His next hearing is set for 2 p.m. on May 26in Lynchburg General District Court.
