MARTINSVILLE, Va. – A Martinsville man is behind bars after police say he tried unsuccessfully to rob a bank on Thursday.
Investigators say 35-year-old Barry Mullins entered Carter Bank and Trust on East Commonwealth Boulevard about 12:30 p.m. and told a teller to put cash into a bag he was carrying.
Mullins was unsuccessful in obtaining money from the bank and fled on a motorcycle.
Martinsville Police were notified immediately and gave chase. Following a brief pursuit, Mullins’ motorcycle was involved in a wreck with a police cruiser behind a building on Clay Street.
He faces a number of charges including attempted bank robbery and feloniously attempting to elude police.
