Virginia is a step closer to a gas tax holiday now that the House of Delegates Finance Committee approved Governor Glenn Youngkin’s proposal to suspend the tax for 3 months starting May 1. According to Youngkin’s office his gas tax proposal uses less than $440 million of the more than $1 billion surplus in the Commonwealth’s transportation fund. The Senate is proposing a rebate payment to vehicle owners instead of the tax suspension.
