A report from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention says drug overdoses and poisonings were the 3rd leading cause of deaths in Virginia during 2020 for those between 1 and 19 years old. That’s driven by a 65% increase in fatal overdoses over 2019. The organization says most of those deaths were in those 15 to 19 years old. According to state health officials fentanyl is connected with most of the overdose deaths.
