The National Weather Service confirms an EF-1 tornado touched down in Rockingham County Friday evening. Officials say the nearly 8-mile-long twister touched down southwest of Sunset View Road and moved in a northeast direction then lifted near the intersection of Crutchfield Road and U.S. Highway 29 Business. According to Rockingham County Emergency management several houses were damaged by downed trees and there were widespread power outages. No injuries or deaths have been reported.
