Appalachian Power is warning boaters, kayekers, tubers, and anyone else using the Roanoke River downstream of the Leesville dam that water levels could rise rapidly starting today and will fluctuate throughout the week. According to Pittsylvania County Public Safety this is because of high temperatures that may necessitate Appalachian Power to increase generation at its hydroelectric plant. Water levels below Leesville Dam could increase as much as eight feet over a seven-hour period.
