Making a video call to a state prison inmate will get a little cheaper next month. According to 8 News the Department of Corrections is lowering the per-minute rate from 40 cents to 20 cents on August 1. Video calls began over a decade ago through a partnership between the department and the non profit organization Assisting Families of Inmates. The calls were initially conducted at visitor centers but in 2019 that changed to in-home technology.
