Our WBTM/Danville Dental Associates Citizen of the Month for July is T. Neal Morris. Letter of nomination submitted by our very first Citizen of the Month…Mr. Charles Ellis.

Neal Morris served 44 distinguished years with the Danville Police Dept., beginning October 19, 1959 as a patrol officer, and eventually rising to the position of Police Chief in May, ‘71, where he served in that capacity for 32 years until his retirement in June, ‘03. Neal had a humanitarian approach to policing. Rather than a night in jail, he took a fatherly approach with teenagers and their families…but yet, was rather diligent and firm in reducing criminal activity.

Neal served in many capacities, including President of the VA Association of Chiefs of Police, President of the Criminal Piedmont Justice Training Academy, member of the FBI National Academy Graduates Association, plus many more.

As a civic leader, he served as past President of the Danville Lifesaving Crew, former member of the Danville Development Council, past Chairman of the Danville Electoral Board, Vice Chairman of the March of Dimes Board of Directors, and was a charter member of the Riverview Rotary Club, where he served as its President.

Today Neal serves as President of the Danville Area Training Academy, Chairman of the Industrial Development Authority of Danville, and President of Danville Crime Stoppers. He is a member of Fairview United Methodist, where he’s also a Sunday School Teacher.

Neal Morris has had quite a storied career and has been a huge asset to the Danville community and surrounding area. I certainly hope you will bestow this prestigious honor upon him and recognize his significant contributions.
