George Washington High School went on lockdown just after 3pm Tuesday. In a release from the Danville Police Department, a physical altercation occurred between students. After the fight had been broken up school security was notified that a student, a 15-year-old male was in possession of a handgun. The individual was relocated to a secure office where the gun was found in a bookbag. All the students involved in the altercation were searched for weapons. A search of the campus was conducted after which time students were released systematically to maintain order. One student is in custody and authorities are working to bring juvenile charges of felony possession of a firearm on school grounds, along with underage possession of a firearm. No students were injured as a result of this incident and the gun was never shown or fired. Anyone with information is asked to reach out to the Danville Police Department or Crimestoppers.
