What started out as a small indoor renovation at the Gretna Public Library has now blossomed into a full-scale property wide upgrade thanks to support from local organizations. Pittsylvania County leaders had already set aside $600,000 in funds to the expansion project but with contributions from the Danville Regional Foundation, the J.T. Minnie-Maude Charitable Trust, and the Library Foundation the project have now boosted the budget to $823,000. Pittsylvania County Public Library Director Lisa Tuite is excited for the projects long term scope saying, “This library will be a great asset for the Gretna community and for all county residents. We could not do it without the leadership of the Board of Supervisors, the hard work of the Library Board and Foundation, and the generous support of local foundations, businesses, and citizens.” A combination of indoor and outdoor improvements are on the way to the facility including door and bathroom upgrades, removing walls and fixtures in the now former DCC space which will be turned into a community meeting room and public computer space. Outside reading spaces, with community art and sculptures and potentially a new community stage with seat walls.
