As we move into September the Virginia Employment Commission has released job numbers for the Commonwealth for July. As the city continues to bring new economic development opportunities to the region it is continuing to show. In July of 2021 the City of Danville showed an unemployment rate of 7.1%, fast forward to July 2022 has reduced that number to 5.3%. Month to month however there was a slight increase from 5% in June. As far as Pittsylvania County is concerned in July of 2021 unemployment was at 4.3%. Last month’s numbers showed a drop down to 3.2%. A statewide comparison year to year shows Virginia dropping for 4.2% unemployment rates to 2.9% July to July. With more new companies opening doors across the region and the construction of Caesars Casino set to begin these numbers should continue to trend in a positive direction.
