Martinsville Police arrested an Axton man on September 6 after he cut a woman’s throat causing her to nearly die. The attack occurred on September 5 at an apartment on Mountain Road according to the Martinsville Bulletin.
When police got to the apartment they found a woman bleeding heavily from her neck. The woman had severe cuts on both sides of her neck that required immediate medical attention before she was transferred to Carilion Hospital in Roanoke.
While on scene police asked the woman who hurt her to which she replied “Anthony.” Police were able to interview the victim while she was in the hospital in Roanoke and she told them the man who attacked her was inside her home for several minutes before attacking her.
“She stated during the time he was there he had went to a truck parked outside. When she went to the entry door that he had went out, he then came back in the apartment and a struggle ensued, which began with “Ant” choking her, then cutting her throat,” Martinsville Sgt. J. L. Vaughan wrote.
The victim then viewed a photo lineup and positively identified Anthony Jerome Hairston, 54, as her attacker. For the attack Hairston was charged with attempted first-degree attempted murder, malicious assault, and strangulation. He also is facing charges for possession of schedule I/II drugs on August 30 and shoplifting on September 2.
Hairston is scheduled to be arraigned on December 5 in Martinsville General District Court for the shoplifting charge as well as the charges from the attack.
