We are proud to announce our latest WBTM/Danville Dental Associates Citizen of the Month…Karen Johnston…letter submitted by Amy Snead.

Karen Johnston is beyond deserving of this award. She has selflessly given of her time, energy, and everything in between to make our community a better place. The one thing, of many, that stands out is her dedication to the Danville/Pittsylvania Cancer Association and all of her hard work she has put forth with the annual Bridge to Bridge Race/Run. This particular fundraiser has raised thousands of dollars. Proceeds of which stay in our community to help those stricken by cancer. Karen is a cancer survivor along with many members of her family. Karen is quick to acknowledge the hundreds of volunteers who make this event possible, noting it isn’t a one or two man event. Karen never wants the acknowledgment or spotlight on her, but this is the perfect time for her to gracefully accept that she is a wonderful person, and all she does for others, doesn’t go unnoticed. As a business owner, operator of Karen’s Hallmark Shop, she does so much to help and bring recognition to others. She’s always promoting local artists with their handmade crafts or books they have written telling the history of our area or of a self help nature. Karen is always quick to help other community organizations in our area with allowing ticket sales at her store, for folks like God’s Storehouse, Danville Garden Tour, Danville Historical Society and so many others. Karen never turns a child or an adult down for a fundraiser. If they ask for a door prize or a donation, Karen is the first to volunteer. Her heart is too big for me to list all the things she does to make a difference. I think Karen is definitely deserving of being your next Citizen of the Month. We love her.
