The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 157 Smith St. Wednesday afternoon. When crews arrived there was heavy smoke and fire showing from the rear of the single-family home. All occupants were outside of the home.

The home sustained heavy damage in the rear kitchen area with the rest of the home receiving damage from heat and smoke. The cause was determined to be careless handling of cooking materials. No injuries were reported. The American Red Cross was contacted and will be assisting the family.
